Flamingo Fling Tosses Funds Our Way

The largest collection of Christmas ornaments in the United States began with a single ornament in 1972 when Clara Johnson Scroggins of Tampa, Florida purchased a Reed and Barton Silver Cross.

Today, Scroggins’ collection numbers well over a million items. An expert on Christmas ornaments, she has written several books, including a collector’s guide on silver ornaments and seven editions of the Hallmark Keepsake Ornament Collector’s Guide.

Scroggins was instrumental in the creation of the Flamingo Fling, an annual event where people from across the country purchase collectible ornaments – with the proceeds benefiting Southeastern Guide Dogs.

Held in Tampa on March 7 and 8, 2008, the 14th Annual Flamingo Fling raised approximately $50,000 to date in support of our mission.
Many thanks to Clara Scroggins and everyone who sponsored or participated in this year’s event.
